Laurie Buchanan
A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Laurie Buchanan has studied harp with Eileen Malone and Marcel Grandjany. She has been principal harp with the American Wind Symphony, the American Shakespeare Festival Theatre, Mid-Texas Symphony, San Antonio Festival Orchestra, Majestic Theatre Broadway Series Orchestra, Lyric Opera of San Antonio, and the San Antonio Symphony. Mrs. Buchanan appears frequently in chamber music recitals and has been a featured soloist throughout the East and Southwestern United States. Active as freelance musician, she has performed with numerous national touring companies of Broadway musicals and made appearances with names such as Count Basie, Johnny Mathis, Dave Brubeck, and Luciano Pavarotti.
Ms. Buchanan has an active private studio, teaching harp and piano, and is on the faculty of the University of Texas at San Antonio. Since 1995 Ms. Buchanan has been actively involved in studies using the harp as a therapy instrument for hospice, cancer, Alzheimer, delivery and surgical patients in a hospital setting and is considered to be one of the pioneers in this field.
